Ramps are listed as a threatened species by United Plant Savers due to overharvesting, particularly of their bulbs. It can take up to 1.5 years for a ramp seed to germinate and another 7 years before the plant is mature enough to flower—nearly 9 years before it can reproduce. Harvesting bulbs removes the most likely seed-producing plants, reducing the population's ability to regenerate and leading to long-term decline. At Maranatha Farm we only harvest ramp leaves, allowing the bulbs to remain in the ground and continue growing year after year.
